Before choosing a house… choose your plan.

Before choosing a house… choose your plan.

Thinking of Buying? Start With Your Plan

When buyers start looking for a home, the first question is usually:

“What house should I buy?”

But the better question is:

“How long do I plan to be here?”

Your timeline matters more than most buyers realize.

In a market like the Battlefords, your plan for the next few years can affect what type of home makes the most sense.

If You Expect to Stay 5 Years or Less

Shorter timelines require a bit more strategy.

Things to think about include:

• Is the neighbourhood stable?
• Are homes selling regularly in this area?
• Is the price range active with buyers?
• Would the home appeal to the next buyer?

Even if a home works perfectly for you today, it should also make sense for the next buyer down the road.

If This Is a Longer-Term Home

If you expect to stay longer, your priorities may shift.

You may focus more on:

• space and layout
• future renovations
• neighbourhood lifestyle
• long-term comfort

When you're planning to stay longer, resale timing becomes less critical.

The Data Helps Buyers Think This Through

This is why I always encourage buyers to look at what the market has actually been doing.

Which neighbourhoods are active?
What price ranges are selling?
Where are buyers competing?

My 2025 Battlefords Market Report breaks this information down by:

• neighbourhood
• price range
• sales activity

It’s a helpful way to understand how the local market really works.

Thinking Ahead Helps Buyers Make Better Decisions

Buying a home is rarely just about today.

It’s about your next chapter.

Whether you're planning for five years or twenty, understanding the market can help you make a more confident decision.
